ถิ่น หมายถึง ดินแดนที่อยู่อาศัย ไทย หมายถึง ชาติไทย คนไทย งาม หมายถึง งดงาม สวยงาม

เมื่อปี พ.ศ.2485 ในช่วงสงครามมหาเอเชียบูรพา จอมพล ป.พิบูลสงคราม นายก- รัฐมนตรี ได้เดินทางมาราชการในภาคเหนือ ท่านได้เห็นภูมิประเทศที่สวยงาม มีอากาศ เย็นสบาย ไร่นาอุมดมสมบูรณ์ จึงได้เรียกชื่อดินแดนหัวเมืองเหนือว่า “ถิ่นไทยงาม” หลังจากท่านเข้ารับ ตำแหน่งอีกครั้งในปี พ.ศ.2491 ช่วงนั้นเป็นช่วงหลังสงครามสงบ ลง บ้านเมืองยังเสียหายจากสงครามอยู่มาก หลายคนสิ้นเนื้อประดาตัวเพราะพิษภัย ของสงคราม ในปี พ.ศ.2492 จอมพล ป.พิบูลสงคราม จึงได้ดำริให้ผู้คนที่ต้องการ แสวงหาที่ทำกิน ไปตั้งหลักปักฐานยังดินแดนภาคเหนือ ซึ่งมีความอุดมสมบูรณ์ มีพื้นที่ทำการเกษตรมากมาย จึงได้ให้ครูเพลงสองท่าน คือ ครูแก้ว อัจฉริยะกุล และครูเวส สุนทรจามร แต่งเพลง “ถิ่นไทยงาม” ขึ้น เนื้อเพลงบอกเล่าถึงดินแดนที่ อุมดมสมบูรณ์ อากาศเย็นสบาย มีห้วย ลำธารน้ำตก พรรณไม้เขียวชอุ่ม ดอกไม้ สวยงาม ผักปลาอุดมสมบูรณ์วัฒนธรรมล้ำเลิศ และได้เชิญชวนผู้คนไปตั้งถิ่นฐาน ยังดินแดนถิ่นไทยงาม อ่านเพิ่มเติม
